During a briefing held on 5 January 2026, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero provided updates regarding an extensive maintenance operation by Rand Water that will impact the city’s water supply.
The operation is scheduled to begin at 4 am on 6 January and conclude at 8 am on 8 January, lasting for a total of 54 hours. Mayor Morero noted that during this period, affected reservoirs will gradually deplete, and residents may experience low water pressure or outages.
The maintenance is expected to affect residents in Johannesburg's western suburbs, including Roodepoort, Fleurhof, Doornkop, and parts of Soweto.
The city announced that water tankers will be deployed to the affected areas.
