Durban's top matric achievers and schools to receive mayor's recognition at 2025 awards

ETHEKWINI Mayor Cyril Xaba will celebrate eThekwini's top matric performers and schools at a special ceremony on Friday. The event at Durban's Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) CC will honour 100% pass rate schools and award bursaries to deserving students, supported by corporate sponsors.

EThekwini Municipality Mayor Cyril Xaba will on Friday host a Mayoral Matric Awards Ceremony to celebrate outstanding academic performance by learners and schools in the city.

The event, taking place on January 23, 2026, will recognise learners from eThekwini who excelled in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations.

Schools that achieved a 100% matric pass rate, as well as those that recorded significant improvements in their results, will also be honoured.

In addition, bursaries will be awarded to deserving learners to support their further studies.

The initiative forms part of the municipality’s efforts to promote education and encourage academic excellence among young people.

Through partnerships with AfriSam, Cell C, Coca-Cola, Gem Schoolwear, Mondi KZN, People's Republic of China, Premier Foods, and Vodacom, learners will also receive learning resources to assist them in their academic journey.

The ceremony will be held at the Durban's Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC).
