The Super Bowl saw rapper Kendrick Lamar shine, the star of the halftime show for this 59th edition . After winning five trophies last week at the Grammy Awards , the Californian flew to New Orleans and its Caesars Superdome stadium where the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs took place this Sunday evening, February 9.
For the occasion, Kendrick Lamar saw things in a big way, inviting many stars on stage including SZA, Mustard, Serena Williams and Samuel L. Jackson. The 100 million viewers of the event (according to the latest estimates) were able to admire Kendrick Lamar's outfit which, while he remained faithful to his streetwear style, did not fail to provoke reactions on social networks. The cause? The type of jeans worn by the rapper.
Relying on a variation by Celine, Kendrick Lamar danced on the roof of a car in a pair of so-called “bootcut” jeans. This type of jean, traditionally more feminine, is inspired by the iconic “bell-bottom” jeans of the 70s. It is characterized by its tight appearance at the knees and very flared at the bottom.
The model, designed by designer Hedi Slimane (artistic director of the LVMH group house until last October), actually pays homage to Serge Gainsbourg: the French singer was in fact accustomed to the “bootcut” cut, which he very regularly sported during his public appearances.
Today, the “bootcut” is making a triumphant return to the forefront of the fashion scene. Lamar had matched the jeans with a pair of Nike Air DT Max '96 “Colorado Away”, a model created by the American equipment manufacturer in 1996 in homage to Deion Sanders, an American football player who went down in history as the only one to have played in a Super Bowl and a World Series at the same time.
Finally, how can we not mention this leather jacket by British designer Martine Rose? The piece is designed using old sports patches and embroidery dedicated to the titles of Kendrick Lamar's GNX album, including "Gloria", his latest hit, on the front of the jacket.
