SAFTA-nominated presenter and media personality Zanele Potelwa is officially set to return as host of the highly anticipated 12th season of the popular reality series "Tropika Island of Treasure".

The announcement comes at a high point for the franchise, which recently received two nominations at the 2026 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs).

The previous season, "Tropika Island of Treasure: Zanzibar", earned a nod in the Best Competition Reality Show category, while Potelwa herself was recognised with a nomination for Best TV Presenter.

These accolades highlight her infectious energy, professionalism, and skill in navigating the high-stakes drama, adventure, and unpredictability of the show.

The upcoming 12th season promises to continue the legacy of adventure, with fresh twists, high-intensity challenges, breathtaking island locations, and the excitement that has made the series a fan favourite since its debut in 2008.

“Being back as host for 'Tropika Island of Treasure' is a dream come true,” Potelwa said.

“I am beside myself that I get to come back and host another season. I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that this is going to be the biggest season yet. I don’t think anyone is ready for the surprises, the celebrity contestants, which island we might be going to, and everything else we have done behind the scenes to make this season special. After being nominated for a SAFTA for the previous season, this announcement is a beautiful way to celebrate, and I cannot wait to be on that island.”

Sveti Kovatcheva, brand manager for Dairy Fruit Mix at Clover, praised Potelwa’s return, noting her unique ability to connect with viewers.

“We are incredibly excited to have Zanele return as host for the 12th season of 'Tropika Island of Treasure'. She brings authenticity, relatability, and a vibrant energy that truly connects with viewers,” Kovatcheva said.

“We are incredibly proud of her well-deserved SAFTA nomination for Best TV Presenter. It’s a proud moment for the entire Tropika family and reflects the passion, creativity, and excellence that go into every season. Zanele truly embodies the smooth, feel-good spirit of Tropika, and we can’t wait for audiences to see her shine again.”

Last year’s season was marked by heart-stopping challenges and drama-filled moments set against the stunning backdrop of Zanzibar.

After twelve weeks of intense competition, Hungani Ndlovu and Dimakatso Calisa competing as Team Orange, emerged victorious. The duo captured not only the coveted title but also a shared prize of R1 million and a brand-new Suzuki Jimny 5-door.

Often considered underdogs, Ndlovu and Calisa navigated the season with resilience, strategic thinking, and strong camaraderie, creating one of the most memorable narratives in the series’ history.

As anticipation builds for the 12th season, audiences can look forward to a new set of challenges, celebrity contestants, and the trademark adventure that has made Tropika Island of Treasure a staple of South African television.

With Potelwa returning to guide the action, fans can expect an engaging, high-energy season filled with drama, excitement, and unforgettable moments.
