The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training is set to meet with the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP Seta) following allegations of financial mismanagement.
Committee chair, Tebogo Letsie said the meeting will take place in the second term.
Earlier this week, IOL reported on the findings from the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA), who has revealed that the ETDP Seta spent a staggering R637,646,000 without any trace or proof of how these funds were allocated and utilised.
Letsie said it was deeply concernign that over R600m of the Republic’s money goes missing in this manner without accountability or action against the accounting authority of the entity
He added that the committee plans to invite the Auditor-General to participate in the crucial meeting, aiming to dissect the factors contributing to the untraceable funds.
The Sector Education and Training Authorities (Setas), were established as a government intervention, are meant to address the training needs of the workplace effectively while alleviating the costs associated with training entry-level employees through state-subsidised programmes.
Letsie further noted recent remarks made by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who expressed concerns that Setas are failing to meet expectations.
