The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development has announced that Deputy Minister Andries Nel will host a student engagement in Kimberley as part of Human Rights Month commemorations marking 30 years since the adoption of South Africa's Constitution.

Ministry spokesperson, Terrence Manase said the event is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 20 at the Moremogolo NCUTVET Campus Hall in Galeshewe, with proceedings expected to begin at 10am.

"The Student Engagement will bring together students from the campuses of the Northern Cape Urban TVET College in Kimberley to reflect on the significance of the Constitution, its role in advancing democracy, and the responsibility of young people to uphold and protect constitutional values," he said.

The engagement forms part of broader Human Rights Month activities under the theme, "30 Years of Constitutional Democracy: Reflect, Renew, Recommit."

He added that the initiative is also aligned with Anti-Racism Week, which runs from 14 to 21 March, and seeks to raise awareness about the historical and ongoing impact of racism in the country.

"It aims to create public awareness about March 21, the consequences of the events that took place on that day in 1960, and how racism, if not confronted, continues to affect individuals and broader society."

He went on to highlight the role of society in confronting discrimination.

"The week also encourages individuals and all sectors of society to actively call out racism."
