Western Cape police have confirmed they are on the hunt for the killer of Nhlamulo Sambo who was stabbed to death on Sunday, May 31, in KwaNonqaba, Mossel Bay.

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Christopher Spies, the 19-year-old was stabbed after he got into an altercation with another man.

Spies said police were called to the scene and they found the teen with a stab wound to the chest.

"He was declared dead by paramedics on scene. The suspect fled the scene. He is yet to be arrested," said Spies.

Spies added that police are still investigating circumstances surrounding the killing.

Meanwhile, his family claims that the teen was killed during riots reportedly linked to alleged protests against foreign nationals.

"They killed my son like a dog saying that he's a foreigner whereas my child is a Tsonga, a South African citizen from Limpopo in Giyani," his mother, Nkateko Sambo said in a video.

The mother also asked for donations to transport her son back to Limpopo where he will be buried.

"I'm very hurt and painful because I'm unemployed and they killed my child and I have to take my child back home to bury him on Saturday," she said.

In a statement, Nonhlanhla Sambo, said his brother was sleeping with a friend when he was forcibly removed from the house and killed for speaking Xitsonga.

"My 19-year-old little brother was stabbed to death on the 31st of May during the xenophobic riots/protests in Western Cape Mossel Bay his fault was being Tsonga in a Xhosa community we are deeply hurt as family about this inhumane act; justice must be served. We will not be silent," she wrote on Facebook.

Police are yet to confirm details around the attack.
