Toyota South Africa Motors is planning a large-scale gathering of Toyota Hilux owners, with a series of Guinness World Records attempts scheduled for May 13.
The event will take place at NAMPO Park, where thousands of Hilux models across multiple generations are expected to line up in a coordinated bid to set new records.
Owners of all variants are invited, from Single Cab and Xtra Cab models through to Double Cabs. The only requirement is a roadworthy vehicle, with entry limited to two occupants per bakkie.
Participants who complete all the record attempts on the day will be entered into a draw to win a soon-to-be-released next-generation Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab.
The prize also includes 12 months of cover from Toyota Insurance, along with R30 000 worth of accessories.
While the record attempts are the main attraction, the day is structured as a broader brand experience.
Visitors can expect activations from Toyota Financial Services and Toyota Insurance, alongside a merchandise area featuring Hilux, GR and Toyota Land Cruiser gear.
Hino Motors will also be represented, with Lexus adding a premium element to the display line-up. Live entertainment and giveaways are planned throughout the day.
The Toyota Hilux has been part of the South African landscape since 1969, building a reputation as a dependable workhorse across a wide range of uses.
From agricultural work to everyday transport, it has remained a consistent presence on local roads.
Globally, more than 23 million units have been sold, with around 1.2 million delivered in South Africa, helping to secure its position as the country’s best-selling bakkie.
The event is expected to draw a large turnout, with organisers encouraging early arrival to manage access and participation.
Registration is open online at www.hiluxworldrecord.co.za.
