The GQ guide to properly applying aftershave

If your daily aftershave routine resembles Macaulay Culkin’s in Home Alone, you’re doing it wrong. Putting on aftershave isn’t rocket science, but there is a little chemistry involved.

Aftershave, or cologne, is composed of molecules that break down over time, so you want to apply it in a way which allows your aftershave to break down over as long a time as possible to keep you smelling #fresh throughout the day.

Better application technique means better sillage (the degree to which a scent lingers in the air), allowing you to get more bang for your buck out of every bottle.

Here, GQ’s tips for perfect aftershave application:

• For aftershave spray: Spray your aftershave from a distance; around 3-6inches from your skin should suffice. Always spray directly onto your skin, not on your clothes.
