KwaZulu-Natal's influence on South African football will be on full display when Bafana Bafana take to the field at the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

Hugo Broos's final 26-man squad features six players who were either born or raised in the province, highlighting KZN's continued contribution to the national team setup.

Leading the provincial contingent is goalkeeper Ricardo Goss. Born in Durban and raised in Chesterville, Goss has earned his place among the goalkeepers selected for football's biggest tournament.

In defence, KZN has three representatives. Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi continues to be one of the most dependable defenders in the country. Born in Durban, Sibisi first made his name at Lamontville Golden Arrows before becoming a regular fixture in the national team squad.

Joining him is Olwethu Makhanya, another Durban-born talent whose development has seen him establish himself abroad with Major League Soccer outfit Philadelphia Union. His inclusion adds youthful energy and versatility to the backline.

Teenage sensation Mbekezeli Mbokazi completes the defensive trio. The Hluhluwe-born centre-back has enjoyed a meteoric rise and heads to the World Cup as one of the country's brightest young prospects.

The midfield department also has a strong KZN flavour. Orlando Pirates star Thalente Mbatha, born and raised in KwaMashu, has become a key figure for both club and country thanks to his work-rate and ability to dictate play.

Alongside him is Sphephelo "Yaya" Sithole, who was born in Ulundi before progressing through the KZN Academy system and eventually earning a move to Europe.

For football supporters across the province, the six players represent more than just individual success stories. They are proof that KwaZulu-Natal continues to produce talent capable of competing on the world's biggest stage.

As Bafana Bafana prepare for their first World Cup appearance since 2010, KZN fans will have plenty of hometown heroes to back.
