DJ Maphorisa has announced that he is shifting his focus back to afro house.
The producer recently shared an unreleased afro house song on his social media and confirmed the move with a brief message to fans.
“Amapiano is in good hands, I am going back to my roots where it all started; AFRO!” he wrote.
The post sparked strong reactions across the music community. Fellow artists showed support in the comments.
Asvante Music wrote, “I feel you on this.”
DJ Zinhle added, “Let’s go.”
We Are Mayonie shared their approval by saying, “Best decision that you have ever made in a long time.”
Fans echoed similar sentiments, with many welcoming the return to a sound that shaped his early journey.
Before becoming one of the key figures in amapiano, Maphorisa built his name within house music spaces.
His earlier work leaned into afro house and deep house influences, where rhythm, percussion and groove took priority.
Songs like “Bazoyenza” with Busiswa reflected that era and helped position him as a versatile producer long before amapiano dominated the mainstream.
He was also a prominent member of the now-defunct South African music group Uhuru.
The group was a kwaito and house music quartet known for major hits in the early to mid-2010s, including "Y-tjukutja" and producing Mafikizolo's chart-topping single, "Khona".
His amapiano chapter became one of the most impactful in South African music. Working closely with Kabza De Small under the Scorpion Kings banner, he contributed to songs that defined the sound and culture of the genre.
Tracks such as “Banyana”, “Izolo”, “Emcimbini”, “Vula Vala”, “Sponono” and "Abalele” became staples on radio, streaming platforms and dance floors.
These releases earned chart success, industry recognition and multiple awards, while also opening doors for amapiano on global stages.
