South Africa’s rising amapiano vocalist JayJayy is making waves again with the release of her new single, “Phesheya”.

“This one means a lot to me,” she said. “It’s about that kind of love that feels close and real - the kind that makes you smile without even realising. We wanted to make something people can feel, not just dance to.”

Teaming up with producer Mordecai for the third time, the pair deliver a track that blends emotion with the dancefloor energy that has become JayJayy’s signature.

At just 19, JayJayy, whose real name is Kamogelo Jaydrean Makoma Mokoti, has quickly established herself as one of the country’s most exciting new voices.

Her vocals have featured on major hits including “Art and Simplicity” with Royal Musiq, “Didiza” alongside Shakes & Les and 031 Choppa, and “Mama” with Shoesmeister.

Earlier this year, her collaborations with Mordecai on “Ngeke n’Believe’e” and “Di Kgomo” both climbed the charts and racked up millions of streams, with “Di Kgomo” reaching number one on YouTube’s trending chart.

“Phesheya” explores a softer, romantic side of amapiano. It is a love song at its core, supported by Mordecai’s warm production and JayJayy’s smooth, soulful delivery.

For JayJayy, the journey to this point has been full of challenges and triumphs.

“Every challenge, every triumph has taught me something invaluable,” she said.

“Among all the moments that have shaped this path, my favourite has to be seeing my music resonate with others, bringing joy to the people who support me. That connection, that shared emotion, is what makes every step of this journey truly worth it.”

Her family has been central to her inspiration and growth. “The love and support from my family have shaped who I am,” she said.

“Being in a position to give back to them through my gift is a privilege that drives everything I do. It has shaped my music, influencing my sound in a way that keeps it real. I always want to tell stories that come from the heart.

"Every lyric, every note reflects the life I’ve lived and the people who mean the world to me.”

Her work with Mordecai is also a key part of her creative process.

“He gives me the space to express myself and is always patient. Our chemistry when we work together makes the process effortless and truly inspiring,” she added.

Two singles are set to drop on Friday, November 28, and her debut album is expected next year.

“I’m beyond excited to share the music that has been such a part of my journey with all of you,” JayJayy said.

With a string of hits already to her name and a growing fan base, “Phesheya” marks another step in her rise as one of South Africa’s most promising young voices.
