American rapper Doechii will be honoured as Billboard's Woman of the Year at the annual Billboard Women in Music. This prestigious title recognises her outstanding contributions to the music industry.
The annual event honours the music industry's most influential and successful women, recognising both rising stars and iconic legends who are pushing boundaries.
The rapper, also known as The Swamp Princess, received the Rising Star award at the 2023 Billboard Women in Music event and has now bagged Woman of the Year, an achievement previously attained by artists like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
The “Denial Is a River” hitmaker is also the second rap artist to be honoured with the award, after Cardi B took it home in 2020.
As Billboard's Woman of the Year, Doechii joins an impressive list of past recipients, including iconic artists like Karol G, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.
This title entails more than just a ceremonial recognition, it also acknowledges the artist’s hard work, dedication, and influence in the music and fashion industry.
“Doechii is taking pop culture by storm, this year becoming the third woman in history to win a Grammy best rap album, and dazzling fans of every musical genre with her breathtaking performances, ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound, style and spirit.
“We are thrilled to celebrate Doechii and cheer on her continued success,” says Hannah Karp, Editor-in-Chief of Billboard
Since the beginning of her career, she has consistently pushed boundaries and challenged industry norms, such as wearing visible face tape and refusing to conform to beauty standards.
Her music is a unique blend of styles and genres, which has resonated with audiences globally and earned her a Grammy Award for “Best Rap Album” in February for her acclaimed mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal”.
This Grammy win made her the second solo female rapper to win the award after Cardi B took the same award home back in 2019.
The rapper’s performance of “Denial Is a River” and “Catfish” on the Grammy stage was spectacular; she showcased her incredible talent and artistry. She killed her performance, leaving the audience and viewers at home in awe.
Doechii's recognition extends beyond her music. She has been featured on the covers of numerous publications, including “Outlander”, “Paper”, and “Dazed”, to name a few.
Hosted by Lavern Cox, the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event will take place on Saturday, March 29, at YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, California.
