South African podcaster Sol Phenduka called out popular South African superfan Joy “Mama Joy” Chauke after she slammed Gayton McKenzie and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture for refusing to sponsor her trip to the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
In a now-deleted post, Phenduka criticised Mama Joy for her entitlement to be financially sponsored for the trip, saying that she might have to sit this one out because she had gone to numerous World Cups before.
“Ey kulukhuni ukuba yindoda (It’s hard to be a man), now her husband is getting dragged for something he has nothing to do with. Everybody is asking, ‘Why is your husband not taking you there?
“Kodwa ma Olday, this entitlement is so bad. Attending the World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a luxury. Mama, you’ve attended four of them, including the rugby and the Women’s World Cup.
"Let’s not count the Olympics and everything else. You’ve had a great run - a joy ride, mama,” Phenduka shared.
Seeking sponsorship for the trip, Mama Joy tagged FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a plea for assistance in one of her posts and shared that McKenzie doesn’t want to pay for fans, especially Mama Joy.
According to “IOL”, McKenzie’s Department of Sports and Culture have sent out a notice that there is no travel budget set aside for fans hoping to attend the FIFA World Cup in June, which led to her public rants.
However, her frustration of not being able to attend the World Cup was met with a lot of online backlash.
Phenduka is among the list of a lot of social media users who called her Mama Joy out after she made the complaint that she would not be able to attend the World Cup.
Many of them commented under her post, telling her that this time around, she might have to consider watching the World Cup at home on TV just like everyone else.
“We all would like to be there, but asinamali (we don’t have money), accept your situation and watch it on TV like everyone,” @Athi1942 shared.
“Bathong, the government might as well pay for all of us. Are we not all fans?” @SO_POPA commented.
“Did you sign a contract where you have to be sponsored all the time, mama?” @Gamsahabnidal_ added.
