Durban -The Daily News High School Quiz with the IIE's Varsity College came to a successful, triumphant conclusion on Monday.
Held at the IIE's Varsity College Durban North campus, 18 teams battled it out the two places available in the National High School Quiz.
While Eden College were the clear winners, there was a tie for second place between Seatides Combined School and a Crescent Girl's High School team, which required two rounds of tie-breakers before Seatides prevailed.
Through the involvement of the IIE’s Varsity College, the quiz has grown from strength to strength. Last year we had 24 schools taking part in the quiz in two regions; this year we had 63 taking part in three regions.
With reading and comprehension skills a major problem in the South African education system, such initiatives are important in fostering a culture of reading among pupils.
Other schools in attendance were Kloof High School, Maris Stella, Our Lady of Fatima, Dr AD Lazarus Secondary School and Haven Park Secondary School.
