FOUNDER of the Cape Flats Stories Facebook page, Stanley Jacobs is committed to giving a voice to ordinary people and hold the authorities to account, while, at the same time, keeping them entertained.
“It’s all about creating a voice for residents living on the Cape Flats,” said Jacobs, 42, who boasts more than 320 000 followers on Facebook.
Jacobs shares jokes, short stories and gives personal advice to keep his followers engaged. He also interviews the authorities and gives talented young people a spotlight.
Jacobs’s regularly posts podcasts on his Facebook where he interviews politicians such as Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton Mckenzie and outspoken Fadiel Adams of the Cape Coloured Congress .
Jacobs ask relevant questions regarding the Cape Flats and its challenges.
Jacobs is the second eldest of seven children. He was born in Parkwood. At the age of eight his parents were one of those “lucky ones” to move to Grassy Park.
Jacobs’ journey in the storytelling started a few years ago.
“I was working for a company and always told stories. My colleagues enjoyed the content,” he told Weekend Argus.
While being an admin on Cape Flats Stories, he decided to write a few short stories. To his surprise, people liked his storytelling and he got requests to write weekly.
He use the alias #jouuncle and he has made it his task make sure that people also get to know about the good news stories on the Cape Flats.
Jacobs is in the process of launching his Cape Flats Stories online radio station within the next few weeks.
He is active in the communities on the Cape Flats, feeding hungry people, running workshops to cover topics like GBV, anti-bullying, and entrepreneurship.
He is doing a myriad of things in the non-profit space and wants all children living on the Cape Flats to have access to a library and literary resources.
