The murder case of baby Caswell Frans has been postponed for sixth time since he was killed in December.
The nine month old baby boy’s body was found buried in a shallow grave in Vrygrond near Lavender Hill days before Christmas.
Priscilla Morris who looked after Caswell was arrested shortly after the gruesome discovery.
It is alleged that the 40-year-old beat and threw water in the nine-month-old baby’s face resulting in his death.
The body was found three days later on December 20 after Morris had allegedly put it into a bag and buried it.
According to a family member who had spoken exclusively to the Weekend Argus, Morris had allegedly been abusing baby Caswell since she started looking after him.
The family member also recalled the chilling moments leading up to the baby’s death.
The 27-year-old said on the day of the baby’s death, Morris grabbed moaning Caswell and pulled him towards her.
She then started to allegedly hit him and threw water in his face.
The family member said she also remembered how Morris screamed that the baby wasn’t moving but allegedly refused to get help or call the ambulance because she feared the authorities would notice the blue marks on Caswell’s body from previous incidences of alleged abuse.
The family member added that she wanted to look for help but then the accused grabbed a knife and threatened her in front of her three-year-old son.
“She then put his body in a bag and forced me to walk with her so that she could watch me. I feared for my children’s life because I didn’t know what she’s capable of, she was also on drugs,” the family member explained.
She said the only time she could get away from Morris who watched her every move was when Morris went to the hospital on the day Caswell’s body was discovered.
At her first appearance Morris informed the court that she would apply for bail which fuelled the was a protest outside the Muizenberg Magistrate Court.
By her fourth appearance Morris had changed her mind and abandoned her bail application.
Eric Ntabazalila, the provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that Morris appeared in court again on Wednesday.
“The case has been postponed until 26 April 2022 for further investigation.”
