Efforts to bring perpetrators of violent crimes to book, paid off when Woodstock police arrested two suspects aged 27 and 36 on charges of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Wright Street Woodstock on Wednesday.
Sergeant Wesley Twiggs, a police spokesperson, said police followed up on information about a murder when they arrested the two.
“A 9mm pistol was confiscated. Once charged the suspects will appear in Cape Town Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.”
In a separate matter the Atlantis police arrested a 25-year-old perpetrator for being in the possession of a handmade zip gun with ammunition in Grosvenor Street Saxonsea, Atlantis on Wednesday night.
Twiggs said that police were busy with crime prevention patrols when they spotted the suspicious looking male and decided to search him.
The suspect will appear in Atlantis Magistrate’s court on Friday on charges of possession of a handmade firearm and ammunition.
In Gauteng more successful arrests of five alleged shooters involved in a multiple murder and attempted murder were made.
The five men suspected to be responsible for the murder of seven and attempted murder of five people on 23 October in Kagiso-Tshepisong, West Rand District was arrested on Wednesday.
The police seized a firearm and ammunition as well as one vehicle.
On that fateful afternoon, it was reported that a lone gunman entered a house and shot dead the owner and his girlfriend as well as a neighbour while unknown number of more men joined him in shooting randomly on a busy street as the was a wedding celebration nearby.
Two more people were certified dead on the scene while the other two died in hospital bringing the total of fatalities to seven. Five victims were treated in hospital for gunshot wounds.
The suspects have already been linked to more cases of murder and attempted murder that were committed in and around Kagiso. They have also been linked with activities of illegal mining in the District. They will all be appearing in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
