Cape Town - The Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront recently completed a R16 million refurbishment of the property's 103 Standard Superior rooms, all of which now offer opulent, modern furnishings with clean, crisp lines.

Taking inspiration from minimalist, Scandinavian interior design, the sophisticated rooms now offer the finest backdrop to effortless relaxation. Along with fully re-designed bathrooms and those little luxuries such as 100 percent pure cotton linen with a 300 thread count - the rooms make for a memorable stay in this internationally-renowned city.

“With our positioning on the edge of the glistening Atlantic Ocean and a short distance from the heart of Cape Town, the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront continues to be one of the city's finest hotels. The refurbishment ensures guests receive sleek, updated rooms along with the modern luxuries they have come to expect from the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group,” says Michael Rathgeb, general manager at Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town.

“Not only do the rooms have a clean, stylish design and a more open feel but, with the use of modern technology, we have been able to drastically reduce our energy and water consumption which we know will have a measurable and positive impact on our planet.”

Coinciding with “Think Planet”, a bid by the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group to go green and alleviate pressure on its carbon footprint, all new ceiling-mounted down lighters at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront have LED lamps, reducing the hotel's energy consumption by an astonishing 75 percent while energy-saving devices limit the use of lighting and air conditioning to when guests are in their rooms.

In addition, new sanitary fittings have been fitted with aerators to ensure that water flow is reduced without affecting water pressure, while care was taken to use only sustainable timber during the renovation process.

This renovation forms the second phase of the refurbishment of guest rooms at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront as all of the hotel's sea-facing Business Class rooms were revamped and modernised in 2008.

“The biggest challenge of the renovation was to complete the project while the hotel was in full operation. Every detail of the process was meticulously planned to compress the timeline as much as possible and ensure that the process ran smoothly. The multi-million rand development created approximately 300 extra jobs during the period of the project,” adds Michael Rathgeb.

Each luxurious room at the 5-star Radisson Blu hotel has a private balcony with spectacular views over either the private marina, majestic Table Mountain or across Table Bay to Robben Island.

In the heart of the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront is a full-height, enclosed atrium which separates the “sea” and “land” facing rooms and Lightspace, the principal agent and designers responsible for the project, used two primary design schemes for the opposing elements of land and sea.

A nautical theme was incorporated into the sea-facing rooms and corridors while a richer, earthier theme was used in the other half of the Radisson Blu overlooking Cape Town.

With the exciting Victoria & Albert Waterfront and the Cape's most beautiful beaches only a stone's throw away, The Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town is a convenient base for guests to experience all that Cape Town has to offer.

The hotel's Tobago's Restaurant and Bar offers a comprehensive wine list and five star dining at the water's edge while a trip to the Spa completes the sensory experience that a stay at the magnificent Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town provides.
