To make the most of the pleasant early autumn temperatures, the inaugural Pinot Noir Festival will be hosted in the gardens of the hotel April 15, 2012, from 2 – 5pm.
Many of the more established Pinot Noir - producing wine farms in and around the Western Cape will be showcasing selective vintages on the day.
Guests can enjoy light music and canapés while they go on a viticultural journey , tasting some of South Africa’s finest Pinot Noir wines from farms including Bouchard Finlayson, La Vierge, Meerlust, Waterford, Hamilton Russell, Catherine Marshall, Paul Cluver, Elgin Vintners, Shannon, Vriesenhof/Paradyskloof, Hoopenburg, Kleine Zalze, Sumaridge, De Wetshof, Oak Valley and the Winery of Good Hope.
Pinot Noir is one of the oldest grape varieties to be cultivated for the purpose of making wine, with the Ancient Romans vintifying it as early as the first century AD. Pinot Noir - or “Red Burgundy” - is often described as being a difficult grape to grow, but is still known and loved by wine lovers all over the world for its soft, velvety texture.
Today, Pinot Noir is planted in wine-making regions around the world including California, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Italy and South Africa.
