THE eThekwini Municipality has announced all communication services related to the city's electricity unit will be temporarily unavailable due to critical technical upgrades that need to be conducted.

In a statement the city said the scheduled downtime would start from 10pm on Friday, September 20, until 4am on September 22.

"Services affected include the prepaid electricity vending system, the contact centre, the eThekwini mobile app, and the online fault logging system."

According to the statement, these upgrades are part of the city’s commitment to improving the reliability of eThekwini Electricity’s ICT (Information Communication Technology) infrastructure to ensure better service for customers.

"Customers are encouraged to replenish their prepaid electricity meters in advance to minimise any inconvenience. eThekwini electricity teams will work diligently to ensure the upgrades are completed as soon as possible."

The city said for fault reporting, customers could use the Electricity WhatsApp Chatbot on 076 791 2249.

"However, customers should note that it may take longer than usual to generate a reference number during this time."
