U-16s go goal crazy

The 2011 edition of the Metropolitan Sasfa Under-16 Cup produced a glut of goals as the top schools teams from around the country began their quest for national championship honours at the Muckleneuck Sports Grounds in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Rosina Sedibane Modiba from Gauteng, started the defence of the title in impressive fashion with a 4-0 victory over the Northern Cape’s Okiep, followed by a 2-0 win over Robinvale from the Western Cape, before edging Meridian from Limpopo 1-0, to top Group A.

In Group C, Gauteng team Mohloli started on a positive note with two wins – a 3-0 win over Ogwini from KZN and 2-0 over Mgubho, who hail from Mpumalanga.

All the teams scheduled to play Sithunzi have been awarded a 3-0 walkover, together with three points.

The round robin phase ends today and the semi-finals and finals will be played tomorrow.
