Unions involved in the fuel sector wage negotiations were consulting with their members yesterday over the latest offer tabled by employers, Solidarity said.
“We are consulting with members and getting feedback. We will meet at the CCMA (Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration) tomorrow,” said spokeswoman Ilze Nieuwoudt yesterday.
The National Petroleum Employers Association said parties involved in the negotiations had agreed not to discuss the details of the offer.
Some 70 000 workers downed tools two weeks ago, resulting in fuel shortages in various parts of the country.
The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union, the General Industries Workers Union of SA, the SA Chemical Workers Union and Solidarity were demanding an 11 percent wage increase and a 40-hour working week. – Sapa
