Isu Elihle beat favourites and take the cash

Isu elihle Primary pocketed R100000 in the KDC Primary Schools Soccer League played at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto on Saturday.

The Emndeni-based school achieved this feat after beating the favourites, Sapebuso, 2-0 in the final.

Their goals were netted by Motlhalefi Radebe and Sibo- nelo Majozi.

Isu Elihle captain, Tshepang Mothopeng, said his boys had made their school proud.

His counterpart TiIsetso Tlhotlhalemaje felt that they did not take their chances but Sapebuso still go home with R50000

Zithathele, from Orlando, got themselves R30000 and bronze medals for third place after beating Diodi from Moletsane 3-2 on penalties after the match had ended goalless at fulltime.

Diodi walked away with R20000.

The tournament, with total prize-money of R2-million, involved no less than 219 schools from three districts of the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) and was played under the auspices of the South African Schools Football Association.

This is the second year of the contest.

In the semi-finals, Isu Elihle downed Zithathele 2-0 and Sapebuso, Gauteng’s provincial Danone Under-12 champions, beat Diodi 3-1.

Adelaide Tambo High from D14 clobbered Takalani (D10) 7-0 in an exciting curtain-raiser.

Both schools (Adelaide and Takalani) are from LSEN schools (learners with special educational needs).
