South African Fashion Week is preparing for another season towards the end of the year, and they have just announced the Mr Price Scouting Menswear Competition finalists who will be part of the showcase.

Every year, SA Fashion Week invites menswear designers to enter the competition, and the finalists get to showcase their sustainable collections at a fashion showcase that usually takes place in October.

Since its inception in 2012, the Scouting Menswear Competition has set out to select the best of the best within a large pool of young menswear design talent.

Besides allowing them to showcase on a larger platform, the Scouting Menswear Competition introduces emerging designers to the media and buyers and helps them break into the retail market.

After receiving many applications, the SA Fashion Week team has selected the finalists for this year’s Scouting Menswear Competition.

They are Kabelo Legodi of Yung Blood, Victoria Ongansie of Victori, Thobinceba Qambela of Thobey Cooper, Kinsley Baloyi of Undefined Outdoor Clothing, Frank Ramatsetse of Candid, Jasmine Davids of Rebirth, Victor Obakeng of The Trendsetter From The North and Mohammed Waalid of Waalid.

All these designers must present innovative designs that promote low waste, longevity, and recyclability and submit sketches for at least seven looks.

They must also make their prints to showcase their creativity, and the winner walks away with opportunities worth more than R50 000, including showcasing their Autumn/Winter ‘25 collection at SA Fashion Week in 2025.

They must impress the judging panel consisting of Malcolm Mokgope and Minenhle Memela, founders of Refuse Clothing; Molife Kumona, editor-in-chief of GQ South Africa; Amber Jones, head of buying at Mr Price; Tamaryn Whitmore, head of ladieswear buying at Mr Price; and Dean Hauptfleisch, head of menswear buying at Mr Price.

The dates for the next season of SA Fashion Week have yet to be announced.
