Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre reunite after three decades with their new album “Missionary”, featuring collaborations with top artists.
A nod to their musical legacy, it dropped on Friday, December 13.
This is their first full-length project together since Snoop’s 1993 “Doggystyle” debut studio album, which topped both the Billboard 200 as well as the Top R&B/ Hip Hop Albums chart.
Meanwhile, “Gin and Juice” from the album earned a nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 1995 Grammy Awards.
They also worked together on Dre’s 1992 solo album, “The Chronic”, and on the hit song, “Forgot About Dre”.
Their other collaborative track, “Still D.R.E.”, which was released in 1999, currently has over a whopping 18 billion views on YouTube.
The duo also set the music world alight when they performed with Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show.
They also took to the stage at the Paris 2024 Olympics’ closing ceremony in August.
Meanwhile, “Missionary” is Snoop’s first project since 2022’s “BODR (Bacc On Death Row)”.
“Missionary” features the previously released singles, “Gorgeous” (featuring Jhené Aiko), “Outta da Blue” (featuring Alus) and “Another Part of Me” (featuring Sting).
The 15-track project also features other collaborations with BJ the Chicago Kid on the songs “Fore Play” and “Now or Never”.
It also includes Tom Petty and Jelly Roll on “Last Dance with Mary Jane”, K.A.A.N. on “Pressure” and “Sticky Situation”, Method Man and Smitty on “Skyscrapers”.
Cocoa Sarai worked on “Fire” and “Sticky Situation”, 50 Cent and Eminem feature on “Gunz n Smoke” and Dem Jointz, Stalone and Fat Money add their voice to “Gangsta Pose”.
Dre, a Grammy-winning producer, boasted to “Entertainment Tonight” in August about the collaborations that he and Snoop secured for the album.
“We have Sting on the song. Man, it’s an amazing roster of artists that’s on this album” he was quoted as saying.
He added on the “All the Smoke” podcast: “When you hear what we have and how he’s got me rapping, it's like a grown Snoop Dogg.”
“There's some growth to him. It's the way he selects his bars, it's the way he uses his voice.”
Snoop also said on the podcast: “([Dr. Dre) uses me like a f**king robot and I love it because I love to be produced. I love to be challenged.”
“If I’m being produced, we’re creating this piece together, and this s**t is masterful because my voice is a part of your music.”
He also took to Instagram to post: “Missionary. Live now. 🎶🔥💨👊🏿.”
