This month, veteran radio presenter Nick Hamman took over a new time slot at 5FM.

He went from hosting the afternoon show, “5 Drive”, to helming the popular morning show, “5 Breakfast”.

Taking to social media recently, Hamman shared that it was not his initial intention to take up the position.

Instead, he wanted to move on, but with encouragement from industry peers, he eventually accepted it.

In the short clip on Instagram, he shared: “To be honest, and I am going to be honest, when I was first offered the show, I turned it down, not because I didn’t respect it, not because I didn’t know what big a deal it was, but because I felt like I said what I needed to say to the 5FM audience and it was time for me to move on.

“But some people that I love, respect and trust in the industry came back and reminded me that I, Nick Hamman, still had plenty to say, still had plenty to do, still had something different from anything else that’s on the radio to offer ... that’s what you going to get.

“You going to get everything that I have, all of me. You going to get honesty, entertainment, you going to get the best radio show that I can possibly make because I am not a morning person and if I’m going to wake up, it’s got to be for a reason.”

It’s been two weeks since Hamman has been hosting the breakfast show, from 6am to 9am on weekdays and fans are loving his energy.

The media personality hosts the morning show along with Thabo Baloyi on news, Xoli Zondo on sport and Marli van Eeden on traffic.
