Durban — Two suspects were arrested, one with a gunshot wound, following a business robbery, pursuit and shoot-out with law enforcement in eManzimtoti on Monday.

ET Rapid Response managing director Tony Lokker said their ET control centre was alerted via the BAC E2 radio network regarding a business robbery in progress at a shopping centre along Arbour Road, eManzimtoti, south of Durban.

He said their control centre operators immediately relayed the information via the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) radio network whereby Amanzimtoti SAPS crime prevention, their ET tactical response team (TRT), ET armed response units, CCPO, mall security and other security partners responded.

“The suspects’ vehicle was seen heading along Moss Kolnik Drive and a pursuit ensued. In their desperate attempt to evade arrest, the suspects fired shots towards responding officers and collided with another vehicle,” Lokker said.

“One suspect was immediately arrested on the scene by Amanzimtoti SAPS.

“A second suspect sustained a gunshot wound in the process of our ET TRT apprehending him when he attempted to disarm our member of his firearm, this suspect was arrested, and transported to hospital under police guard.”

Lokker said the other suspects fled on foot towards nearby bushes. The area was cordoned off and a ground search commenced compromising members of their ET TRT, Amanzimtoti SAPS, SAPS K9, CCPO and other role players.

“Cash and firearms were recovered on the scene,” Lokker said.

“Unfortunately, the remaining suspects could not be found at this stage, however, SAPS will be investigating further.”

The CCPO added that the vehicle had crashed on Blaze Way and two suspects fled into thick bushes and managed to evade arrest.

“The lady in the private vehicle was treated by paramedics on the scene and seemed to be okay,” CCPO said.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said Amanzimtoti police are investigating a business robbery case following an incident where a 32-year-old man was allegedly pointed with a firearm at his workplace on October 7 in eManzimtoti.

She said the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.
