Following his side’s first loss of their Betway Premiership campaign over the weekend, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro revealed exactly what he thought of his side’s performance.
Devin Titus scored the only goal of the encounter just after the half-hour mark, as Stellenbosch FC ran out 1-0 winners at Orlando Stadium on Sunday.
Having begun their league campaign with seven wins in a row, the defeat saw champions Mamelodi Sundowns regain top spot.
Sundowns and Pirates both have 21 points, but the Brazilians are ahead by four on goal difference.
Total domination
Against Stellenbosch, Pirates dominated with 70% of the ball and had 17 shots at goal compared to the three of the visitors.
"We didn’t capitalise, it was difficult to play with an advantage in the central corridors, and the field was extremely dry as usual here when we played during the day. We couldn't manage to be precise enough in one of those situations,” said Riveiro.
"Then in the central corridors, they found Titus in a good position to run in transition and he finalised the action well and they went up one-nil. We kept going, we kept trying, we tried everything we could in the second half,'' he added.
"We had good chances to equalise, but I don't think today it was a zero-point performance, but what can I say they scored one goal and we didn’t, three points for Stellenbosch, they fought incredibly for every action, for every matter and in the end they got three points, no dramas, nobody is invincible and we got our first league defeat."
