SuperSport United striker Samir Nurkovic has revealed how he maintains his focus on the pitch, amidst the ongoing legal battle with Royal AM.

The Serbian forward, who took the KwaZulu-Natal club to FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, is navigating the complexities of his situation after the club unlawfully terminated his contract shortly after he signed in 2022.

Nurkovic won his case and is now owed approximately R15 million, which includes interest. The repercussions for Royal AM have been severe, as they are serving FIFA-imposed transfer ban for the last year.

Moreover, the club has encountered additional troubles, including an inability to honour fixtures over the last month due to tax-related issues with Sars. Royal AM's last five fixtures have been put on ice, with no indication when or they will actually be able to play again.

Nurkovic addressed reporters ahead of the the highly anticipated Tshwane Derby against Betway Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night, articulating his approach to managing the stress of legal proceedings. He emphasised that while the situation is challenging, it is essential to remain focused on the business on the pitch.

“Certain things in a professional football career are beyond the control of the player," Nurkovic explained. "This kind of stuff, there are people to deal with.

"As a professional, you need to just keep your mind on one main thing: improving yourself each and every day, at training and games. Just try to be the best, just do the best of your possibilities, and the results will come.”

SuperSport have had a tough start to the season, losing their last four matches in all competitions. In fact, they haven't won a match in 2025, with their last win coming on December 14 against Magesi FC.
