Reigning league champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday announced they had competed the signing of Brazilian forward Arthur Sales.

The 22-year-old arrives in South Africa from Belgian second tier side Lommel SK, and has been brought in to challenge evergreen veteran Peter Shalulile for a place in the team.

Sales began his career at Brazilian giants Vasco da Gama, before moving to Belgium in 2021. He spent one season on loan in Portugal, and another back in his native Brazil before returning to Belgium.

The Brazilian is the club’s second signing after Kobamelo Kodisang, and will be hoping to hit the ground running as the club begin life after Rulani Mokwena.

“Mamelodi Sundowns is a great team, ambitious, and always aiming for the top,” Kodisang said after his signing with the reigning league champions.

Mokwena was fired in the off season, and the club also said goodbye to a number of top talents in Thabiso Kutumela, Bongani Zungu, Brian Onyango, Gaston Sirino and Junior Mendieta.

According to reports, Sundowns are closing in on SuperSport United defender Keagan Johannes, who has also been linked with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.

Meanwhile, the club announced last week that Steve Komphela had been roped in as senior coach to assist Manqoba Mngqithi, who has been promoted to head coach following Mokwena’s departure.
