Banyana Banyana forward Hildah Magaia has joined American outfit Kansas City Current on loan for a fee from Mazatlán of the Liga MX Femenil.

After the conclusion of the loan, the champions of the Women's Cup will also have the option to make the transfer of the Banyana star permanent.

Kansas City Current’s head coach Vlatko Andonovski said he was happy to have the South African international player join his side, adding that the “Breadwinner” can be an asset as they seek to clinch the National Women's Soccer League.

“We have been watching Hildah play for some time and we’re very happy that we can bring her to Kansas City now. We feel that she can be a great part of this team, going forward,” Andonovski said.

Magaia was one of South Africa’s stand-out players during the 2023 FIFA World Cup, helping Banyana defeat Italy 3-2 to advance to the last 16 for the first time.

Reacting to her move to the US, the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot Award winner said she was looking forward to playing against some of the greatest players in the world.

“Kansas City is such a great place for football. I am eager to play in the NWSL and against some of the greatest players in the world.”

Magaia’s move to the US comes months after another Banyana player, Linda Motlhalo, also made her way to the States to join Racing Louisville FC.

Thembi Kgatlana also played in the National Women's Soccer League before joining Mexican side Club Tigres Femenil.
