Las Vegas – Mexico's Carlos Molina could not defend his International Boxing Federation light middleweight title as planned Saturday against unbeaten American Jermall Charlo after landing in prison.

Molina, 30, was jailed in Las Vegas over immigration issues and authorities would not release him in time to ensure the fight could be contested.

Molina, 22-5 with two drawn and six knockouts, was to have faced Charlo, 17-0 with 13 knockouts, on the undercard of the fight between Mexican fighters Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Alfredo Angulo. – Sapa-AFP
