World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is to face a UK Anti-Doping hearing after being charged with the presence of a banned substance.

The 27-year-old was provisionally suspended on June 24 after it was alleged that traces of nandrolone were found in a urine sample taken in February 2015, though that suspension has been lifted pending the hearing, UKAD has revealed.

The 27-year-old announced on June 24 that he was pulling out of a planned rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, scheduled for July 9, saying he had injured his ankle in training. Fury’s cousin and fellow boxer, Hughie Fury, has also been charged with the same offence. Both have denied the accusation and Fury’s legal team say the result of tests from March and May 2015 were contradictory. Their lawyer Lewis Power said: ‘The two boxers strenuously deny taking any performance-enhancing drugs.’

The charges will be considered at a hearing of the independent National Anti-Doping Panel on a date to be confirmed. – Daily Mail
