Manchester, England – The postponed all-British heavyweight fight between David Haye and Tyson Fury has been rescheduled for February 8 in Manchester.
Haye cancelled the original bout, which was due to take place on Saturday, after requiring six stitches in a deep cut above his left eye sustained during sparring.
In a statement released by Hayemaker Boxing on Tuesday, Haye said: “I was absolutely devastated this weekend, and felt as though I'd let a lot of people down. But now, with this new date, I couldn't be happier.”
Haye, a former WBA champion, responded to criticism that he shouldn't have been sparring eight days before the fight.
“To suggest I decided against wearing a head guard, or that the cut was premeditated, shows a clear lack of knowledge and understanding.” – Sapa-AP
