Chris Eubank Jnr is expected to sign a £3million deal this week to fight Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin in September in London.
The O2 Arena is the preferred venue and, after 11 days of negotiations, promoter Eddie Hearn has told Sportsmail an agreement is ‘very close’.
It is a hugely ambitious middleweight assignment for Eubank against the most devastating puncher in the sport.
Given the way the proposed deal is structured, a bumper pay-per-view audience on Sky Box Office could see the British champion’s purse doubled.
Considering Golovkin has won all 35 of his fights and acquired the WBC, WBA and IBF world titles, Eubank would be a major underdog. Hearn said: ‘I am still waiting for a call from the Eubanks to say this was all for a bit of hype. But it’s not — they genuinely want Chris to fight the most feared boxer on the planet.’ – Daily Mail
