Pretoria - Assets, including 19 properties and 115 vehicles amounting to R75  million, have been recovered from the former acting national police commissioner General Khomotso Phahlane and other senior officials implicated in the R191m “blue light” SAPS case.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit announced that through a collaborative partnership with the Investigating Directorate, it had made significant strides in the fight against fraud and corruption as they recently managed to recoup assets of SAPS officials linked to the controversial “blue light” case.

Sindisiwe Seboka, the directorate’s national spokesperson, said through an appointed curator together with the Sheriffs of the court, members of the Hawks and AFU proceeded to addresses in Sandton, Pretoria, Boksburg, Springs and Sasolburg to execute a provisional restraint order.

Seboka said the order was granted on August 18 by the high court in Johannesburg in regard to the assets with a value of R75m.

She said the assets included at least 19 immovable properties linked to the accused and about 115 vehicles including three trucks.

Investigations were to continue to trace further assets which may be linked to the case.

Seboka said the case was related to a corruptly awarded contract by the SAPS to a service provider, Instrumentation for Traffic Law Enforcement, for the supply and fitment of blue lights and sirens for Gauteng police vehicles.

Sole director of this entity, Vimpie Phineas Tlalefang Manthata, one of the accused, will be returning to court on November 2 with several former high-ranking SAPS officials. These include Phahlane, Ramahlapi Johannes Mokwena, Nombhuruza Lettie Napo, James Ramanjalum, Deliwe Susan de Lange, Ravichandran Swamivel Pillay, Joseph Maetapese Mulaiwa and Bonang Christina Mgwenya.
