Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has proposed a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine and a Christmas ceasefire to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban proposed a major prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine on the eve of Christmas, as well as a Christmas ceasefire, in a telephone conversation with president Putin yesterday," Peskov told reporters.

Russia submitted proposals for the exchange of prisoners to the Hungarian Embassy in Moscow on the same day, the official said, adding that Russia has never refused to negotiate on the situation in Ukraine.

"We assume that consultations on establishing peace will continue. The Russian side fully supports Orban's efforts aimed at finding a peaceful settlement and resolving humanitarian issues related to the exchange of prisoners," Peskov said.

However, Judging by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's reaction on social media, as well as his entourage, the Ukrainian side has rejected all of Orban's proposals, the official said.
