“Once Helen Zille is out, siyangena,” re-elected EFF leader, Julius Malema, announced on Sunday.

Malema said that his party was ready to form a government of national unity (GNU) with the ANC should the Democratic Alliance (DA) leave. He made the remarks in his closing speech at the party’s third elective conference in Soweto, Johannesburg on Sunday.

The red berets rejected the ANC’s invitation to join the GNU after the May 29 elections, saying they would not co-govern with the 'racist' DA.

The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) was also a reason why the EFF brushed off the invite.

But in his speech, Malema predicted that the GNU days were numbered and the DA would lead.

Malema told more than 2,000 delegates that the ANC would remove President Cyril Ramaphosa if he did not sign into law two contentious clauses of the Basic Education Amendment (Bela) Act.

According to Malema, a person who will replace Ramaphosa is likely to be against the GNU and the DA might leave.

And if this happens the EFF will be waiting ready to join.

“Do not rush, comrades, we are waiting, we are going to enter this government. When they start fighting with Zille, siyangena (we are going in)," Malema said.

Malema subtly criticized the MK Party, stating that the EFF will not enter government to rescue the ANC, but rather to serve the people.

This follows former President Jacob Zuma’s statement that MKP will save the ANC from dying.

Malema did not confirm if the intimate ties between the EFF and MKP are no longer there.

He made it clear that the MKP's participation in the agreement would not be a requirement for the EFF to join the unity government.

“We can’t choose friends for them in any way; they were friends together, criminals.

“We are not going into coalition with the ANC on condition there’s MK, no, we are not interested in MK. It is not a condition,” he said.

Malema maintained that they were ready to govern and serve the nation.
