The atmosphere at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is alive with energy on Sunday, as the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) celebrates its first anniversary.

The iconic venue is filled to capacity, a sea of green, gold, and black as supporters gather to commemorate a year of 'political activism and vision'.

The air is thick with excitement, pride, and anticipation as the party is yet to reflect on its past achievements and looks toward the future.

As the stadium pulses with the rhythm of chants and singing, there’s a sense of history in the air.

Many of the attendees are veterans of the struggle, their faces etched with the memories of decades-long battles for justice and equality.

"This anniversary means everything to us," said Harry Harry, a former ANC member turned MK Party supporter.

"We fought for freedom, and today, we are fighting for the true liberation of our people — economic freedom and dignity."

Youth wants 'real change'

Younger supporters, some attending their first political gathering, are equally fired up.

"The struggle continues," said Zamkela Ntshilibe.

"We’re here because we believe in what this party stands for: real change, not just talk."

The speeches, filled with rhetoric of unity and resolve, stir the crowd to chant in unison.

The jubilant sounds reverberate throughout the stadium, as supporters old and young alike reaffirm their commitment to the party’s mission: a more just and equitable South Africa for all.

Sunday is more than just an anniversary; it’s a powerful reminder of a cause that has yet to be fully realised for the MKP.
