Christmas has come early for 350 Animals at Fallen Angels Shelter.

In what can only be described as a Christmas miracle, Fallen Angels animal shelter in Melkbosstrand has found a glimmer of hope amidst its darkest hour.

After receiving a 90-day eviction notice due to safety regulations near the Koeberg nuclear power plant along the West Coast, the shelter faced the daunting task of relocating 350 animals before the holidays.

Now, thanks to the generosity of supporters, a new home for these animals is finally becoming a reality.

Donations poured in from animal lovers both nationally and internationally, enabling the shelter to secure land and begin installing much-needed perimeter fencing.

Co-Founder Gayl Basson, said people have also come through adopting more than 20 animals.

“For months, we were overwhelmed with worry,” Basson said.

“But seeing how much people care and how they've rallied behind us – it feels like a Christmas blessing. A huge weight has been lifted off our shoulders. We now have the foundation of a safe haven for our animals.”

Basson said she also realised there's still a lot of work ahead.

“The shelter needs additional funds to build kennels, create proper infrastructure, and complete the relocation process, but we are hopeful to meet the challenge, thanks to the continued kindness of our supporters.

In the meantime the shelter is still waiting on the City's response to an appeal they lodged, affording them more time to raise funds and also to relocate comfortably.
