Beirut - The bodies of a Lebanese woman and her six children have been found shot dead in their Beirut apartment, a police spokesman said on Monday.
“A 55-year-old woman and her six children were found shot dead late on Sunday night in their apartment in Basta,” an impoverished neighbourhood in the Lebanese capital, the spokesman told AFP.
“The investigation is ongoing and we have nothing final yet on this horrific massacre.”
Preliminary information indicated that the eldest son, aged 25, could have shot his mother and five siblings dead before heading to another room and turning the gun on himself, he added.
The bodies of the mother and five children had been found inside one bedroom, while the eldest son was found in another with a gunshot wound to his head and a hunting rifle at his side.
The father of the family, who runs a small bakery in the neighbourhood, returned home to the scene on Sunday night after spending the weekend in his native village in southern Lebanon, added the spokesman.
He declined to confirm if the man was a suspect in the case. - Sapa-AFP
