Port-au-Prince, Haiti - An ally to former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide says the twice exiled leader will make his first major public appearance next month.
Former Senator Louis Gerald Gilles tells The Associated Press that Aristide will formally reopen his university and deliver a speech on the topic of education.
It will be Aristide's first public appearance since he returned to his homeland in March after almost seven years of exile in South Africa.
Aristide denounced his party's exclusion from a presidential election at the airport upon his return. But he has since stayed in his private villa.
The priest-turned-president was toppled both times he served as Haiti's head-of-state.
Gilles made the announcement Tuesday night. - Sapa-AP
