Durban - A woman was hijacked by four armed men in the parking lot of a well-known store on Tara Road on the Bluff in Durban on Monday.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that this morning at 8.15am, a 42-year-old woman was in the parking lot of a business premises when she was allegedly accosted by four armed men.
“At gunpoint, the suspects took the vehicle and drove off in an unknown direction,” she said.
In the video shared on social media platforms to alert the public, a woman is seen parking a white Golf 7 in a business parking lot.
The hijacking seems well planned as the four suspects move quickly and seamlessly as they take on different roles in the robbery.
As the driver gets out of her vehicle and begins to walk away, a white car is seen in the CCTV footage driving towards her.
The car comes to a stop behind the Golf and two men jump out and rush towards the woman, pinning her to the side of the car parked next to her vehicle.
The two men search the woman and take her car keys.
The first suspect jumps into the woman’s car, while the second suspect stands next to the woman and a third jumps out of the suspect’s car with a gun visibly in hand.
The third suspect stands guard while the thieves drive out of the parking area with the woman’s vehicle and their own.
Three helpless car guards who were close to the hijacked car leave the area while a female customer standing with her trolley is seen grabbing her handbag and quickly runs back into the store.
The woman is seen sitting against a car and moments later the hijackers stop on the main road to collect the fourth suspect.
Police said a case of carjacking was opened at Brighton Beach police station for investigation.
