Durban – After Bluff residents in Durban raised concerns about a robbery at Oxford Freshmarket on Tara Road on Monday, the company confirmed that while there was a hijacking in the parking area, the store was not robbed.

A statement issued on Oxford Freshmarket’s Facebook page on Monday, addressed its Bluff store customers.

“It has come to our attention that there is concern that our store was robbed this morning [Monday]. This is not the case,” said the store.

Oxford Freshmarket confirmed that there was however an unfortunate hijacking incident yesterday morning outside our store.

“The victim and all those around are safe and unharmed. Our deepest sympathies to the victim,” said the store.

“Our store remains open and we are assisting where we can with this incident,” it added.

The Mercury reported yesterday that a 42-year-old woman was hijacked by four armed men in the parking lot at 8:15am.

A video of the incident shared on social media platforms showed how the woman was pinned against another vehicle by the suspects and her keys taken away.

Last week a security guard who intercepted a hijacking at the corner of Bluff Road and Edwin Swales Drive on the Bluff was saved by his bullet proof vest after the suspects opened fire at him.

The 46-year-old security guard suffered a gunshot wound to his chest, with a shrapnel wound to the left arm.

The suspects robbed the guard of his firearm and fled the scene in an unknown direction.
