Hijacked vehicle recovered in under 10 minutes in Pietermaritzburg CBD

Durban - A private security company recovered a vehicle in Church Street which was hijacked from the Townhill area, outside Pietermaritzburg in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mi7 National Group said that just after midnight, on Saturday it was contacted by a Townhill resident reporting the incident.

“Mi7 Armed Response units were immediately dispatched to the location given, and found a man who was in distress. The man said he was hijacked by three men. A description of the vehicle, a white Audi, was obtained and circulated among Mi7 Reaction Officers.”

Mi7 added that a widespread search began, with its officers in Townhill, the CBD, Hilton, and Northdale monitoring common entry and exit points.

“In just eight minutes after the information was distributed, Mi7 units in the CBD spotted the vehicle abandoned near Church Street. Mi7 Reaction Officers escorted the man to his car and the matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.”

In a separate incident also on Saturday, Mi7 recovered vehicle rims in Victoria Road, Pietermaritzburg which an employee allegedly attempted to steal from a business.

“Just after 2pm, Mi7 National Group's Control Room received a request for assistance from a business owner on Victoria Road.”

Mi7 added that they reported that a staff member allegedly stole items – a set of car rims from the premises.

“Mi7 Armed Response was immediately dispatched to assist. When the accused staff member found out that Mi7 was on the way, he fled the premises. Mi7 Reaction Officers conducted a search of the premises and found the rims hidden on site. These were handed back to the owners.”
