Almost 100 young KwaZulu-Natal residents will graduate tomorrow (Friday) from a six-month skills training programme.

They received training in a variety of skills. These included basic computer training, plumbing, hospitality and business training at youth academies set up by the KZN Social Development department.

They will also leave the institution with a driver’s licence.

KZN Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza, will officiate at their graduation ceremony at Ezibazini Youth Academy in Umhlabuyalingana, tomorrow.

According to a statement released by the department, it has been implementing the youth development academy model to address the challenges that are encountered by young people in the province. These include the high rate of poverty, inequality and unemployment.

The young achievers hail from two development academies, namely Vuma in Eshowe and eSicabazini Youth Development Academies in uMkhanyakude.

The graduates were recruited from different districts across the province after recommendations were made by social workers.
