Chidimma Adetshina is once again in the spotlight after accepting an invitation to participate in this year’s Miss Universe Nigeria pageant after she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition.

When information about her father being Nigerian came to light, South Africans were up in arms about her being a Miss South Africa finalist, petitioning that she be removed from the competition.

After ongoing Afrophobic attacks online, Adetshina eventually withdrew from the competition, following disclosures by the Department of Home Affairs that it believed that fraud and identity theft may have been committed when Adetshina’s birth was registered. Her mother is of Mozambican descent.

Now that she will be participating in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, people still have something to say.

This morning “Miss Mozambique” was trending on X, with many users saying that she should enter the Miss Mozambique competition as well, presumably because her mother is Mozambican.

@ChrisExcel102 tweeted: “If she doesn’t win Miss Universe Nigeria.. we trying Miss Mozambique. We fully behind our Queen.”

“Dear Chidimma our South African Queen by birth, as soon as we finish mopping the floor with Nigerians we are heading straight to Mozambique. You will be crowned both Miss Universe in Nigeria and Mozambique. No DNA just RSA,” said @BafanaSurprise.

“If doesn’t #ChidimmaAdetshina doesn't win Miss Universe Nigeria, we are taking her to Mozambique… We are the giants of Africa, and we are coming for it all!” wrote @SirMakhubo.

Yesterday, Adetshina released a video on Instagram confirming her participation in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition.

“I have received an invitation from the Silverbird Group who are the organisers of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, and I say this with great excitement because I have decided to accept the invitation.

“I have decided to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty pageant.

“Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I look forward to participating in Africa’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe Nigeria,” she said.
