London - A problem with the prostate gland can cause so-called dry ejaculation, where little semen is produced.

Normally, the semen flows out of the testicles through the urethra - the urethra passes through the prostate gland where there is a fork junction where the ureter - the tube from the bladder - connects to the urethra.

But in some cases the semen travels in the wrong direction at the junction and back into the bladder.

This can cause fertility problems. In some men it can be caused by an enlarged prostate and in rarer cases it can signal a prostate cancer that has blocked the path.

Consultant urologist Christopher Eden, of the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford, suggests asking your GP for a prostate check if you are a sufferer of dry ejaculations.

A blood test can detect the early signs of prostate cancer by measuring the level of PSA (prostate-specific antigen) in your blood. - Daily Mail
