London - A sex education book written by a British author nearly 40 years ago has been banned in Malaysia after complaints from Muslim activists that it's obscene.

The Home Ministry says that Peter Mayle’s Where Did I Come From? contains “elements that undermine societal morals and public interests.”

The book, which is intended for children between the ages of four and eight contains cartoons that narrate the reproductive process.

It was first published in 1973 and was one of the first books by international bestseller Mayle who has since had success with A Year In Provence and A Good Year.

Members of the youth wing of Malaysia’s ruling party spotted the illustrated book at a shop before filing complaints about it last week.

The Home Ministry said in a statement that people caught distributing the book could be jailed three years. - Daily Mail
